mediocre highschool grades, mediocres SAT’s. Want to be a stock broker or fund manager. Worried I would not be able to keep with the cometition.
Answer by Xeboprime
You’re not looking for a business career, you are looking for a FINANCIAL career. Try not to confuse the two.
I am a retired Securities Investment Broker.
Undergrad school is very important. One learns basic fundamentals, accounting principals, and basic law.
One will still need to pass a test called the Series 7, the SEC administers this. It is the General Securities License.
Additionally, one needs the series 63, or state (where you will be working) certification.

I have just a year left until i get my degree. I love acting and cannot imagine not doing it as a career..but it is very hard and money does not actually come enough to pay rent, etc. When i graduate i dont know if i should start going to audtions and try and pursue acting..but at the same time..cannot get a job in business because auditions are time consuming. I’m afraid that if acting doesnt work out and i decide to find a job in Business in a few years that i would not get hired because of lack of experience and few years not working after graduating. PLEASE HELP
Answer by mnm313
Odds are against you with acting. (not saying that you can’t make it!) I would go with business for now. Get established…sock some money away. Then if you really want to persue it, you will at least have a cushion. I would still stay with my day job though… Good luck!

Odd career path for comedian/mushroom hunter
Dave is, well, a little strange. In fact, he dropped his given last name and prefers to be called by his stage name — Dave Odd. “I started going by that in 1991. My parents had a pretty nasty divorce, so I started using that surname because I didn’t want to deal with my father much,” the 33-year-old Portage Park man says. “I specifically went with that name because all my life I’ve been an …

I am thinking about going straight into work after my A-levels instead of university. I am considering a trainee scheme that would eventually take me into a management position. The sort of thing that big companies such as M+S offer. I was wondering if this is a good career path and if other companies would still consider me with experience instead of a degree.
Help is much appreciated and feel free to tell me about your own career choices!
Answer by Winslow F
Besides making you more qualified, degrees make you know more than just the way you are taught to do things. Especially if you are smart, GO TO COLLEGE, it is a great thing. Wal-Mart will consider you, I’m for real, my dad manages there, you have to start at associate, were you actually work on the floor,, but if you are smart, you will get the manager position no matter what you do.

I’m currently an undergrad at a liberal arts school. I’m planning on majoring in either politics or philosophy, and a minor in business. After i get my degree, would i be capable of getting hired or nonetheless get an interview with a firm or bank. Also, could a business internship help the situation?
Answer by ownpool
A business internship would definitely help.
May I suggest majoring in business if that major is available, in which case you could minor in politics or philosophy. As you can take additional politics or philosophy courses as electives in addition to those required for a minor, you could still get a good education in one of those subjects.
If a major in business is not available, I would suggest that you take as electives any additional available business courses which are not required for the minor. I would also suggest taking additional business courses during the summer at the most prestigious university possible during any summer in which you do not have an internship. Some of the most prestigious universities in the country, including Harvard and Stanford, often admit for the summer only students at any other properly accredited university or college upon the student’s completion of a simple form and payment of the tuition fee. In that case be sure to have official transcripts sent to your college.

I am seventeen and I really want some ideas for a business career. I want something where I can make money and enjoy it at the same time. I don’t want to just hate my job and have to live with it for the majority of my life. So if anyone has any ideas, it would be really wonderful and appreciated. Thank you
Answer by Deborah H
I’ve worked in human resources for over 25 years and love the field, but that doesn’t mean you will.
You really need to take time to consider what you enjoy doing and figure out how to translate that into a career. Do you have a hobby? Do you play sports? Like to cook? Enjoy meeting people? Make a list of your favorite past times to see where there might be a career. Consider doing some Internet research by using words from your list with the word ‘career.’
You could also talk to your parents and your friends to get input from them. Or try the school counselor, especially if you are going on to college. You’ll need to figure out your major anyway, so s/he can help you determine some options.
Getting actual on-the-job experience might help point you in the right direction. Consider volunteering your time, finding part-time work or getting an internship while you attend college.
What you will enjoy is really up to you to decide. You might have to do some leg work or try a few jobs before you finally figure it out.
Best of luck!

I want to be involved in the business world. I want to give speeches, review work, power over others, but also help people and have good causes. I don’t want to try my own business, that’s too risky to rely on as a career. I want to find an opening spot where I can advance easily, but nothing like marketing or stock. I want to be involved within a company, but not sure what I want to do. What are some healthy incomes for some business careers that are satisfying?

I´m currently in Spain on an intensive Spanish course as part of my gap year. My current plans are to study Spanish straight to the end of June. I´m considering changing my plans to, instead of having 30 weeks of spanish, to having 15 weeks of Spanish and 15 weeks of French.
Which do you think is better, fluency in Spanish or knowing both French and Spanish to an intermediate level from a business career sense? Which option would be more useful?
Thanks for the help!!!
