Some water had seeped around the edges of the linoleum in the pantry at the time, causing water to get under the flooring. But I thought at the time that some judicious hole-drilling w

This year’s Necon offered a couple of interesting twists in the programming that offered more than the usual good value. First off, our man John Skipp and Tom Sniegoski were Guests of Honor, and so offered up to attendees in a public interview conducted by Chris Golden and Toastmistress Mary SanGiovani. It was a double interview, and Chris and Tom are collaborators, so rich opportunities for truth and merrymaking were full exploited

I’ve decided to stop dragging my feet and jump in to freelance writing. I figure, what’s a better time to start a new, high-risk career than an economic depression? Here is a sample article from my portfolio… Looking at popular blog sites like Dooce (www.dooce.com) or Lifehacker (www.lifehacker.com) makes many amateur (and some professional) writers say “Man, I wish I could do that!” Well, guess what? You can! However, just wanting to do it is not enough (trust me, I know this feeling).

Chapter 4, The Path Into Darkness Mark straightened himself, looking at the blank masonry wall. He was standing in a building sub-entrance, where garbage cans were stored to his right. Brow furrowed, he tried to figure out what was going on

The Economy of Writing Agent Nathan Bransford made an entry titled “Will Write For Food”. In it, he discusses the depressing trend of authors bemoaning their finances and pinning their economic hopes on their writing. Yes, that big success can happen — it’s out there — but it’s like the lottery or one of those lucky few that got in on a good stock’s IPO.
