I am currently trying to determine if my company constitutes as a small business but I would like to find out what is the maximum amount of employees needed to be a small business according to the State of New Jersey or the Federal Government. Does anyone know?

As I understand it, any business that has a net under mil. is a small business as per the Federal government. Don’t know about NJ.

The U.S. Census Bureau sent me several pages of questions to fill out about every detail of my business and its finances, telling me they were gathering data for future use and that I was required by law to fill it out. I’ve owned this business for a long time and have never received any inquiries like this before. Is this unusual, or does the government routinely ask highly personal questions of small business owners?

If a State already does business with an investing vendor, is it ethically ok (or lawfully) for that vendor to take some of the investment employees out for hunting (at no cost to the State employees)? Would their be any exceptions to why you answer the way you do? Please be as detailed as you can – Thanks in advance!
I agree – I also think it is unethical, but I wanted some outside input into this.

I recently learned about a company that promises to fully assist in applying for government grants and real estate loan deals if you join for a fee? They claim that with their extensive research and legal department they can for a one time fee hugely enhance your chances to receive all kinds of grants and bargain loans. It seems like a good deal if they truly provide a good service and the members are highly successful at having their applications approved. I wonder if anyone knows about these types of offers and have good experiences or negative outcomes. How much money is available from the government and how difficult is it to actually receive some?

I own a spa for the last 3 years for the first 2 years we did very well, however when the economy started to crush so is the spa. people came less often, and some of them stopped coming completely. Our overhead is unbearable at this point and we are faced with option to close. With all of the government help to small business, I was wondering if there’s a program for small business to help them stay open until this is over or stabilized.
