Just need some advice on a system of invoice numbers. I started a small business and I need to create invoice numbers for my customers. Is there any science or system behind invoice numbers ??? How can they be coded so you can store built-in information ??? FYI – I have a small construction contractor business.

be careful not to try and do to much with one field. biggest thing is they need to be in chronological order. other fields have date, customer name so that information can be obtained some other way.

Well, there is unemployment, but your business is charged for that, unless he paid in to the system previously and can go back on a previous employer. If you have any assets to sell that is the best way. My husband and I have gone through that before, it’s best to sell any assets, or get creative(garage sale, some kind of service offered). You will survive!!! You might be able to get food stamps, we have never gone that route, but it may be a possibility. If he owns the assets to the business try an auction house that specializes in that, but check them out really good!!!!

I’ll give you what I think is the quickest and easiest way: If this is a privately-held company, then create a business plan, preferably accompanied by a private placement memorandum. Then network. A lot. Talk to your lawyers, accountants, and other members of your business community who have clients and relationships with “angel investors” – i.e. wealthy individuals who like to invest in private equity deals.
Angel investors are often the best source of start-up capital because the money is usually readily accessible, and unfettered by the overbearing rules and restrictions that often come with investments from venture capital firms.

An LLC is the best for a small business. At the end of the year you put the profit and loss on your personal taxes so in the long run it benefits you more.

I just started a small business. What do I need to know about paying taxes every year? Also, what kind of things can be used as write offs?

Your a sole proprietor which means you don’t have any employees. So you will need to file taxes the same way a contractor would. I know that business need to file FICA taxes but i’m not sure if that consists of self employed… I think they would do it differently but similar to FICA. Write offs can be items that are account recievables that you know will be uncollected. Bad debts. You need to have an allowence account. There is a lot of things you need to know. I suggest buying a book or taking an income tax class to get some knowledge. Go to a local bookkeeper or accountant to help you do your reports.
so im working on a business project for my class and i am stumped on one part of my project. its part of a human resource part where i am to figure out wages and such. and a requirement is insurance that my company provides for my employees. im just wondering what type of insurance would a small company provide for its employees as well as costs. this company is only going to be run by 5 or 6 people but it is still a requirement for my project.

Go to grants.gov/ and follow the instructions. You will find that unless you are a nonprofit, in basic research or daycare, there are no grants for a small business.
I already applied for 2 cards and have been declined. Trying to build my business credit. Since its for my business, I use my EIN and not my SS#. Any advice where else I can turn to for a business credit card? Thanx.

Now a days they are not giving credit cadrs that easily. Also dont apply if you think they will decline your application as this will effect your credit history. Try Amex they used to give the business cards very easily. Also apply thru the same bank in which you have bsuiness account.

One thing you can do is get a secured credit card. What you for this is lay a sum of money on it ahead of time (say a hundred or thousand). Start charging on it and pay it off as soon as the bill comes in. After 6 months, apply for one credit card. It doesn’t have to be a major credit card either as even a store credit card will enable you to be on your way to good credit rating.
One thing that will hurt your credit rating is to apply to too many cards (even if you are accepted for all of them, but it especially damages you if you are rejected). You do not want too many credit inquiries on the Equifax or TransUnion. This will show creditors who view your credit rating that you seem desparate for money. This is especially damaging if the creditors see you are not only applying everywhere, but you are being rejected. One or two should be the max per year.
Make sure you are never late in paying your bills. This too also shows up on Equifax and TransUnion- as well as it also shows creditors who view your record how much you pay each month to loans and cards and how many days you are behind.
I hope this helps… but getting a secured credit card is your best bet, imho.
My business signed a contract with a larger corporation. The contract was breached over ten times during the duration of the contract. Our reputation has been really hurt because of them and they have not even issued payment to us for what we provided them. When they sold us on the agreement we were very happy, little did we know what we were going to go through. If someone could let me know a good way to take on the corporation I would really appreciate any help. Thanks.

I don’t know what city you live in, but do NOT use an attorney in your town….go to the biggest town closest to you– like Chicago- LA – Phila- NYC- you get the drift….you can find their names and their specialties online and can actually e mail them about your situation and they will call you back or email you if they are interested…..go for a good Jewish firm, no prejudice, but they do know how to get the most money for you…
