Let’s say a friend and I each used $10,000 each from our personal savings to start up a small business. We pay ourselves our salary each month but how does the business repay the start up money? Is it a seperate payment from the salary? We don’t claim it as income, correct?

I have a small store in Yahoo, but would like to become an official small business owner. This way, I can register to receive credit card payments online and have the company officially registered. For this, I need to have business owner information and a business social security number. I have no idea where to start all of this!
Also, which state should I try to register my business in since it is online?? Any advice?

My husband would like to start up his own tree stump grinding and tree trimming business, but all of the small business loans we have investigated require proof of one year profits. We would need a small business loan in order to purchase the equipment necessary to begin the business. Are there loans for this?

I have heard that the Government does not give grant money to start businesses. If this is the case, could the government give states money to finance business start-ups in their state. Of course there would have to be some oversight.

Health insurance is one of the biggest costs for small business that choose to support their employees. We have seen 200% grown in premium costs over the last 6 years. It looks likely that republicans will succeed in squashing any significant reform in the health care bill. How many small businesses will go out of business as a result?
Or will they simply drop employee matching leaving the entire cost up to individuals?

Hi,
I’m an intern with a small company who’s contract with a VOIP provider has ended. We’re looking into setting up our own VOIP systems because our VOIP provider has been giving us less than proper service.
As an intern, I’m given the task of finding out how to achieve this, but I have absolutely no idea where and how to start. The net doesn’t really offer anything except adverts on VOIP business plans on VONAGE, which is completely irrelevant…
What do you need to set up your own VOIP system to offer for commerical use to the public? Some kind of server? What about softwares?
Any help, will be greatly appreciated.

I heard that there are number of downsides being small business owner. Besides having to work long hrs and be constantly worried about your business and the competitors nearby, there is a high risk of going bankrupt. I was told that 80% of small businesses go bankrupt within its first 2 years. Sure, you make a lot of money if your firm becomes successful, but it seems there are many hurdles before reaching that state.
Knowing that, is it worth the risk starting your own small business for people with not much entreprenurial experience? What are the characteristics of people who own successful small business?
